7 Bite and Alignment Problems We Can Correct with Invisalign

Bite and alignment problems can damage your teeth, gums, and self-confidence. If you want straighter teeth without the hassle of traditional braces, Invisalign® has a lot to offer.

Over 20 million people, including five million teens, have benefited from the minimally invasive and barely detectable treatment.

Our expert team at Swinney Dental in Tyler, Texas, offers standard Invisalign treatment for patients ages 12 and up and Invisalign First for children ages 6-10.

Invisalign successfully treats many common alignment complaints. Below, we take a closer look.

How Invisalign works

Invisalign uses customized aligner trays to gently and gradually shift your teeth into better alignment. Treatment starts with 3D scans of your mouth, which we submit to a lab for aligner creation.

You can expect to wear each set of clear aligners for two weeks before switching to the next set. Depending on your needs, Invisalign treatment may take 10-24 months.

Alignment issues fixed by Invisalign

Invisalign can eliminate or reduce nearly all bite and alignment issues that traditional braces address. Highly complex or severe alignment and orthodontic problems are the only exceptions.

By wearing each set of devices for 20-22 hours per day during your treatment, Invisalign can correct mild to moderate:

  1. Crossbites
  2. Crowded teeth
  3. Gaps between teeth
  4. Open bites
  5. Overbites
  6. Rotated teeth
  7. Underbites

As your bite and alignment improve through Invisalign, you can reap the dental health benefits of straighter teeth, such as less decay, improved smile confidence, and a reduced risk for gum disease.

Maximizing your Invisalign results

To make the most of your Invisalign results, follow your treatment plan closely and contact our office with any questions or concerns.

Once treatment is over, we’ll likely recommend wearing a clear retainer for six months, followed by nights only for another six months, to keep your teeth from shifting. In some cases, we suggest long-term use of a night tray.

If your teeth shift for any reason, consider touch-up Invisalign treatment, which works similarly but typically takes less time. Genetic factors, gum recession, teeth grinding, and poor oral hygiene habits can cause your teeth to shift after treatment.

To keep your straighter teeth shiny and healthy, schedule routine dental cleanings. For added brightness, consider our professional teeth whitening options.
